Other than maybe the last part. I see health as mental health. As in maybe more wisdom or a strong mind (or will). Speed I see as a quick mind, can think something through faster than others, and is more apt to learn something.

You can be slow witted and have a "healthy" mind or a "good head on your shoulders" just like you can be quick minded and make stupid decisions constantly.

It could be. Just pointing out so much is packed into so few things that you end up with weird situations - that is where the description of the character, the mechanics, and the numbers written down are not easy to interpret. You could be of weak body, but strong 'mind' and therefore have high health (or average). Yet, you can take a lot of physical punishment. Or a weak minded person with a strong body, but have the same chance to make a save versus a mind affecting spell as you do one that does physical damage. Health can also have INT in it, or not. It is just a big mess. Just a few editions like Mind and Endurance would resolve a lot of things and would only serve to improve the game play.

Games need to be simple and fairly intuitive. No looking up charts, doing lots of math, or anything else. I think many players have that and have found ways to make it work for those that play LA, but I think most people did not find that the rules worked for them because they had to do work. I think LA works best for those that basically hand-wave things most of the time. However, those are the people that do not really need rules to begin with.
